When I was nine, Dad has his bourbon Said, "A glass every night will put hair on your chest." With a fire in my eye, said, "Alright, I'm ready." Well he laughed, then he sighed, Said, "Son, be my guest." So I took one sip, It barely got past my lips I had no poker face That's an acquired taste Now I'm pushing 18, and a girl struck my fancy So I made her my queen, tried my hand at romance Saw Dad bring home flowers to the woman he married So I picked some of ours, asked her to the dance She said, "I'd love to, darling, just not with you." My first real heartbreak That's an acquired taste Let the girl go Sip life real slow There's no need for haste That's a hard truth to face In this journey we're in, to fail is to win You're at a good pace, you'll get the taste

All My Life 02:00
All my life spent lookin' for love All that time wasted... Now my love is wrapped up in your love There's no love without you Simple, but true There's no love without you All my life spent lookin' for joy All that time wasted... Now my joy is wrapped up in your joy There's no joy without you Simple, but true There's no joy without you Simple, but true There's no one like you

Say 03:30
Please say Say, when the birds stop singing Please say you'll sing to me Please say, when the birds won't sing anymore You'll be the one that keeps singing on Please say Say, when the world stops turning Please say you'll dance with me Please say, when the world won't turn anymore You'll be the one that keeps dancing on Please say Say, when the sun stops shining Please say you'll shine for me Please say, when the sun won't shine anymore You'll be the one that keeps shining on

Power Outage 02:21
No lyrics in this one... it was written during a power outage, though!
5.
Snowed In 03:00
Snowed in So deep As far as the eye can see Thick clouds Dark gray I don't think it's even done today When we finally melt When the salt washes away Will you ever love me again like you did today?
6.
Roots 03:56
We can plan a vacation together We can plan our great escape Urgently, like we just robbed a bank Grab the car, this is our getaway Stay too long, and it's hard to go Stay too long, you'll be comfortable It's not even 'til you try to leave That you even feel your roots Take my hand, hold it tight, don't let go, yet Who needs roots when I'm holding you? Time to leave, time to see a new sunset Same old star with a different view Stay too long, and it's hard to go Stay too long, you'll be comfortable It's not even 'til you try to leave That you even feel your roots

Alarm, six o'clock Snooze twice, then I'm up Same job since 17 Same shampoo, rinse, repeat Maybe it's a quarter-life crisis Youth is a beautiful curse Maybe it's a step in the journey On my way back to the earth Maybe I'm giving up Maybe I'm getting things right for once Time has a face, but no eyes that can see His hands flail around mechanically Maybe it's a quarter-life crisis Youth is a beautiful curse Maybe it's a step in the journey On my way back to the earth Maybe I'm giving up Maybe I'm getting things right for once Alarm, six o'clock Snooze twice, then I'm up

It's been seven years since we last said "goodbye" And I know it was the right choice Don't mean I don't miss your voice Call it "loneliness" or call it what it is When I should be in a deep sleep I count regrets like I'm counting sheep We tend to hide our problems deep within us A cancer no one else can see Not sure if I want healing, or amnesia Or maybe just a good night of sleep
9.
Snow coming down Salt on the ground If you really think about it That's all there is in between us Just a layer of salt and snow Just a layer of salt and snow Yeah I know you're like two states away But I could get in the car right away If you really think about it That's all there is in between us A couple hours of road to you A couple hours of road to you If you really think about it That's all there is in between us Just a layer of salt Just a layer of snow A couple hours of road And yeah I heard there's a new boy around I heard there's a new boy around... But that's all there is in between us... That's all

Duet 02:09
Another instrumental! There are more than two instruments, though, so what's the duet?
11.
Goodbye 02:33
Time now to say "goodbye" Hold back the tears in your eyes Last hug, then you're out the door ...Actually one more If I could, I'd freeze time Stop the sun in the sky I know it's cliche It's just there's no better way to say, "I'll miss you" I'm gonna miss you Who's to say where we will find ourselves next year at this time? Absence makes the heart grow fond, will the brain respond? If I could, I'd freeze time Stop the sun in the sky I know it's cliche It's just there's no better way to say, "I'll miss you" I'm gonna miss you I'm gonna miss you I'm gonna miss you

Human 02:38
All my ideas have blossomed from failure Which is probably more common than you'd think If to ere is to be human Then God knows I fit in I'm imperfection, sealed with a kiss

about

"Human" serves as a reminder that without regrets there can never be growth, without loss there can never be love, and without failure there can never be creativity.

released August 5, 2018

"Human" was written, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Christian Loftus, in his bedroom, mostly between February and July of 2018.

Special thanks to Leah Thompson for her help writing "Say" and singing harmonies. Additional thanks to Bill Ludwig for singing parts on "Acquired Taste" and "Salt, Snow, and Road", and to Greg Wilfrid for letting me borrow his lovely tenor banjo. Apologies to Greg Wilfrid for spelling his last name wrong on the physical CD. Oops.
